---Market Day in Kisoro with Friends

Dear Friends

“Market Day” in Kisoro is the big event! Every Monday and Thursday, scads of people come from all the villages with their fruits, vegetables, materials etc.etc etc.. All on foot, rain or shine, it is an all day affair. We went on a Monday, the busiest of the two days, to get the entire effect and since there were promotions for a new mobile phone service, we got way more than our money’s worth.

With hundreds of materials to choose from; strangely Bill and Carol were drawn to the same pattern and the entire bolt was purchased. Bill, Carol, myself and now Sheba have had similar shirts made from this material and Carol’s husband Rodney will join the club when Carol gets around to sending me his measurements (smile).

I had been looking for a large thick mat for my guest room and there it was at only 7,000 shillings ( a mere $4.00). Bill caused quite a stir carrying it on his shoulder as everyone in Uganda knows -that is woman’s work-ha.

The market is where I buy fresh grown veggie’s and my latest addiction—passion fruit! Have you ever tried it? Well, Jacques used to have passion fruit vines but I really don’t recall any fruit, just exquisite purple flowers and an equally lovely scent. Now, I eagerly await passion fruit juice and to give it that extra something, we sometimes add an orange or two (when they are available)

I think my favorite photo from that day is of Bill carrying the mat and the side view of Carol with her beautiful Ugandan earrings on display..

Again, as I view the volcanic mountain as backdrop to our “market pics”, I am reminded what an amazingly beautiful country I am privileged to live and work in.
